How we work
Food collection

Food (all of it non-perishable) is acquired by the Food Bank through, individual donations direct to the warehouse, collections by volunteers at supermarkets, regular and harvest collections from churches.

Sorting and preparation

The food is weighed in, checked and sorted by expiry date at the warehouse. A balanced nutritional mix food is then boxed and weighed out so that it are ready to go.

Working with care professionals

Local professionals in front line care agencies such as Citizen’s Advice Bureau, DWP, Social Services, doctors etc., will be issued vouchers. They will give a Food Bank voucher to  those they deem needy and directed to a Food Bank distribution point. Potential clients cannot approach the Food Bank direct, but must come through a recognised front line care agency.

Giving away essentials for life

At the distribution point the person is offered a drink and chat whilst their food parcel is completed with their preferences. They may be offered help in finding other professionals who can assist them out of their crisis.
